[GIS] Python: “Import Script” greyed out

I have a tool that I created from a Python script which I update from time to time. Usually I will right-click the tool and choose Import Script, but lately this has been unavailable, as shown below:

This has been happening to almost all the tools I create, usually after a few imports. The problem is that if the script is cached the only workaround is to create a whole new interface, which can be pretty time-consuming. Does anyone know why this happens?

The question has been answered in Geonet:

you need to export script and then you gonna be able to add a new script... Don't overwrite the script you want to import.

You can use the builtin reload function in python to automatically reload your module. What you can do is something like this:

import mymodule

def hook():
    reload(mymodule)
    mymodule.myfunction()

where hook() is what's called by ArcMap and mymodule is the module you're editing between invocations. You may have to edit sys.path to include the path of the module you're editing so that import mymodule does not fail. Or include the directory in site-packages (maybe using python setup.py develop).

The behavior of the GPToolDialog function is only documented as follows: Opens a geoprocessing tool dialog box.

The function asks the application to bring up a dialog window, but does not return any status/result object to you. It does not offer any way of directly determining when the tool finishes running or if it gets cancelled.
