Is there a (Windows) application that takes multiple, consecutive tracks, and merge them into a single GPX file?
I tried deadware "GPS Track Editor", but neither Merge nor Join did the trick:

For a Python approach, try gpxplot available from code.google.com. The script is available here and the online interface is located here.
Try using GPS Visualizer. The profile tool looks like what you may be interested in.

Yes, there are such algorithms (see for example here, there and here) but since you seem to have only one single road, would it not be easier to do it by hand? (!). Using for example QGIS, you could import your GPS traces, create a new layer, digitalise the centerline of the bundle, and then export it in whatever format.

I would use GPS Babel - you can download it free here: https://www.gpsbabel.org/download.html. It's a great, simple GUI that will take any number of GPX file (or any other types that are associate with random GPS collections) and merge them into one GPX, or any other format you want to output. You can also select whether you want just Waypoints, Routes and Tracks, or everything.
