[GIS] Leaflet pop up fade out animation

When a popup is opened with Leaflet a nice fade in animation is played. When you close the popup however it abruptly disappears. Does anyone know how to play a fade out animation when closing the popup?

I am using Leaflet 0.7.3.

One possible fix would be to remove this.closePopup(); from this.on("mouseout", function(e)

While this slightly changes the behaviour (popups stay open until you hover over another popup, close them manually, or press the left mouse button somewhere else) it seems like an easy fix that lets the user click the hyperlinks.
