[GIS] Iterate zonal statistics table model builder – add field and name each row by raster

I have a model builder model to run zonal statistics as a table on multiple rasters and merge the output table into one table

However, I would like to add a field to the merged output table that identifies each each record by it's raster name.

Since I'm new to figuring this out, can someone tell me what steps I need to add in order to make that happen?

First thing is to get the structure of your model correct:

You need to put your Iterator>Zonal Stats>Collects tools in a sub-model and expose the collects tool as a parameter. Then that model is a sub-model that feed into the Merge tool. Have a look at this thread

Then insert the add field>calculate Field tools after your zonal stats tool and the output of the calculate field feeds into the collects tool. Finally use inline substitution as the expression in the field calculate tool. If you don't know what that is then read the help file as there are numerous examples.

So the file names would then be fields in the output table? Seems like you would need to add a field to each table (let's call it "FILE_NAME"), merge all the tables together, then use the ArcGIS PivotTable tool (pivot on the FILE_NAME field). If you have 1000 tables, would you then have 1000+ fields? Not sure if this would be the best table structure...

Code to add file names to tables would look something like this (untested) code:

arcpy.env.workspace = r"C:\my_dir"
tableList = arcpy.ListTables()
for table in tableList:
    arcpy.AddField_managment(table, "FILE_NAME", "TEXT", "", "", "100")
    arcpy.CalculateField_managment(table, "FILE_NAME", "'" + table + "'", "PYTHON")

Geodatabase feature class (and raster, etc.) naming rules:

Names must begin with a letter, not a number or special character such as an asterisk (*) or percent sign (%).
Names should not contain spaces. If you have a two-part name for your table or feature class, connect the words with an underscore (_), for example, garbage_routes.
Names should not contain reserved words, such as select or add. Consult your DBMS documentation for additional reserved words.
The length of feature class and table names depends on the underlying database. The maximum name length for file geodatabase feature classes is 160 characters. Be sure to consult your DBMS documentation for maximum name lengths.
