[GIS] Is there Shape Metrics Toolbox or equivalent for ArcGIS 10

I need to compute the geometric properties (e.g. contiguity index, dispersion index etc.) of a series of polygons and I would like to use the Shape Metrics Toolbox.

I am using ArcGis 10 and the version of the toolbox that I could find on the website is said to be for ArcGis 9.3. When I try to use the tool I get an error message which might be related to an incompatibility with ArcGis 10:

ERROR 999999: Error executing function.
<type 'exceptions.SystemExit'>: 1
Failed to execute (ShapeMetrics).

I found several papers on line in which the authors mention an ArcGis 10 version of the Shape Metrics Tool but I couldn't find this version anywhere. I have contacted the authors but have received no reply yet.

I was wondering whether any of you have experience with the Shape Metrics toolbox in ArcGis 10, have encountered the error message above or know of other user-written tools for ArcGis 10 which compute shape metrics.

We rarely used the Toolbox within ArcGIS 10.x.

The problem was with several bugs in the Toolbox's Python script.

We have fixed the problems and now it works with ArcGIS 10.x.

Python isn't really the right tool for the job here. If I were you, I'd do this with Featureclass To Featureclass or Append, there is little to no benefit of doing this in Python when a geoprocessing tool exists to already do this and will run faster than a Python script.

If you can use the File Geodatabase API writer in FME2012-SP2, then there will be a setting in the feature type/writer to enable setting an attribute index.

Unfortunately, for the moment, it's limited to only that writer (not the ArcObjects Geodatabase writer) which has a number of other limitations.

In the meantime you are correct, a call using the PythonCaller should work.

I am no Python expert, but you will need to make sure you call it as a Class and not a Function - because a function will execute once per feature, and you only need it to run once in total.

So I would think something like:

...but you will want to check the help doc for the PythonCaller and probably take a look on fmepedia.com for examples. Also check out fmeevangelist.com and search for Python content. There are some examples I created that might be of use.
