I have a shapefile of buffered points in QGIS. I need to display all buffer polygons in this layer which overlap. I have experimented with the intersect tool, but this only seems to work if I am looking at the intersection of 2 separate layers otherwise it just says that all polygons intersect.
Does anyone have a QGIS solution?
There's is a rough and dirty way to do it. I say rough and dirty because I've been getting strange intersect results which I'll open a bug for.
) tool and select features from the intersect tools output that "Equal" your source layer.Depending on the complexity or count of the features, running these can take a couple mins.
Some optional additional steps could be if you have an ID type of field with common or unique attributes do a dissolve then a Singleparts to Multipart.
Got it! Used the Select by location... tool, chose my shapefile in the two categories and checked the Include input features that overlap/cross the selection features. Thanks @Joseph!

Enable Topology Checker Plugin in Plugin Manager. Add your polygonal layer in Topology Rule Settings window, select "must not overlap" rule and add them. To see overlap errors click on Validate button.
