I have a layer in Arcmap 10 that was brought over from Auto CAD (layer A). This layer has multiple polygon shapes. I need to split these shapes from layer A, and place them into their own layers. When I brought over the layer from Auto CAD, it put all the polygons into one shape. So when I go to select one in editing, it selects them all. When I look at editing the vertices I can see each one is a separate part. Is there a way to split these parts apart to place into their own layers?

If you have access to ArcGIS, this can be accomplished using the Explode Multipart Feature tool. Start an editing session on your feature, turn on the Advanced Editing Tools (Editor dropdown menu - More Editing Tools - Advanced Editing), select the France/French Guyana feature, and then click the Explode Multipart Feature tool from the Advanced Editing toolbar. This will create two separate features, with each maintaining identical attributes to the original feature. You may want to edit the newly split attributes as your workflow dictates.
Run Arctool box KML to Layer conversion tool and then export layer to shp file.
