[GIS] How to animate raster time series using open-source GIS

I have a bunch of rasters taken about 10 minutes apart, and I have a nice QGIS project that produces pretty enough maps of them. I'm wondering if there's a way to animate this raster series, with a color map and overlaid with (static) vector data, using open-source GIS. A QGIS solution would be ideal since I already have the project set up there, but other suggestions are welcome as well.

QGIS "Point Sampling Tool" should be the plugin you're looking for.

OpenLayers – Best Way to Animate Radar Data in OpenLayers

Try a sliding window of sorts. You can buffer 10 layers at a time. Start destroying layers and removing them from the DOM and memory once you reach 10 layers. So once you hit layer 10, layer 0-9 are destroyed and layers 20-30 are loaded with visibility to false. This will give you a buffer of about 10 layers but you can modify your tolerance as you see fit for performance. If you feel 20 layers works better, go with 20.
