How do I add a comment to a Field in the Layer Properties – Source Fields tab?
The documentation says "Comments can be added by clicking in the comment field of the column …", but clicking in the Comment Field or the Alias does not work.
However, I may add an Alias using the Attributes Form.
Example: Adding "Dato" as an Alias.
But, how may I add a comment (no. "Kommentar")?
I see Comment below Alias in the Attributes Form window, but the "text field" is missing?
This is a bug in QGIS 2.16.0 and 2.16.1 and has been reported in the bug tracker.
It has been resolved and 2.16.2 will no longer suffer from this problem.
As usual, you can install a nightly (in this case
qgis-rel-dev) to get a fixed version before the next point release. Installing nightly versions is not only good to get fixes early on. It also helps to verify that the problems are really fixed. In case problems persist (or new problems have been introduced) these can be assessed before the next point release.
When you add a new a field from the attribute table, you can add a comment to that field.
You can view the comment in the layer properties...
...and by mousing over the field name in the edit feature form.
Note: There are probably other ways to use the field comment feature, but I couldn't find any documentation. Basically every website has a comment section, so "comment" is useless as a search term.
There's no way to add comment text to an existing field (at least not that I could find, but see the note above). A workaround would be to create a new field with the desired comment. Then fill the new field with values from the old field, and delete the old field.
