im sending the following request to maps api but receiving the json response with chars problem. Can some one point me in the right direction to set charset correctly ?

The big reason I want to know is to assist with answering the question "is point (x,y) in multipolygon z?"
Using a Ray casting algorithm to solve the point in polygon problem, you don't need to know how the Google Code works.
The number of intersections for a ray passing from the exterior of the polygon to any point, if odd, shows the point lies inside the polygon. If even, the point lies outside the polygon. This test also works in three dimensions.
Figured it out and posting for those who encounter the same issue. I got the full error from Google:
REQUEST_DENIED Requests to this API must be over SSL. Load the API with "https://" instead of "http://".
To fix, change the URL in line 288 of mmqgis_library.py to begin with https.

In the query string there is no information about language (i.e., no language parameter). Besides when loading the Google Maps API Javascript code on client side, you give no information about the language settings. Please, have a look at Google Maps API localization.
