Google Maps Geometry – Downloading Municipal Geometry Using Google Maps API

When searching for a city on google maps, google is that smart it displays a geometry line on the boundary off the municipal.

Is there a place in the google maps api where I can download this geometry?

actually you are searching city boundries of world. and you can get it anywhere when you find free data...there is lots of option but which country are you interested in?

For free shapefile you can use :

Global Administrative Areas - you can download by countrty...

or if you want whole world :

Whole World version 2.0 as Shapefile, or ESRI geodatabase (for ArcMap 10): ESRI file geodatabase, ESRI personal geodatabase.

The coordinate reference system is latitude/longitude and theWGS84 datum.

The problem is the KML structure. Google Earth more flexible with the KML structure when Google Maps doesn't.

All the "Style" tags should be inside the "Document" tag and outside the "Folder" tag.

[GIS] Getting polygon boundaries of City in JSON from Google Maps API

You can get polygon coordenates in json for using with googlemaps using openstreetmap. Go to http://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/ search a place like "Partido de Ituzaingó"

click on "details"

Look for OSM ID and copy it (control+c), example: 2018776

paste the ID in http://polygons.openstreetmap.fr/index.py and download the polygon
