The Nomad comes with SatViewer which allows you to record up to 64,000 characters of NMEA data per file - NMEA has many different messages defined but all are text, easy to parse, and the GLL message contains lat/long/time etc.

You can also write your ssf file to a shapefile directly in TerraSync on your mobile device. This shapefile can then be transferred from the device to your PC. The steps for doing this are as follows:

When finished collecting data in TerraSync close out the data file.
Open the file manager in TerraSync. (Data>File Manager)
Select the data file you want to write to a .shp
Tap Options>Write data to Shape
Choose where to write the shapefile to.
Connect the Trimble handheld to a PC.
Open Windows explorer on your PC.
Copy and paste the shapefile from your handheld to your PC.
