I used that portable GIS (which includes QGIS) last week. A couple of tips:

The whole portable system lives in directory called usbgis and the batch files expect that to live on the root of whatever drive it is located on. Either put it on the root, or make a junction on the root that points to the actual location.

This batch file works from any directory level: .\usbgis\apps\qgis2\bin\qgis-ltr.bat
It is big, so make sure it goes on a drive with plenty of space.

I was just reading the QGIS User List yesterday and came across the following post:

I started adding some mapbook functionality [to the EasyPrint Plugin]:

i) Mapbook by grid: You have to create the regular grid first. Paper format, layout, scale etc. values are taken from standard easyprint tab ("simplemap"). You can also choose some overlap percentage. After creating the grid layer you can export the maps. There are some additional parameters like adding adjacent tile indicator to the map or creating an overview map.

ii) Mapbook by feature: This will zoom to the extent of every feature of a specific layer. You can use the layers attributes for setting the title, subtitle, scale and rotation. Scale and rotation will be ignored for polygon and linestring layers.

I gave it a try and it works really well. Mind you I just made a simple mapbook by zooming to polygon features, but it created them in PDF. My only wish is that instead of creating a separate PDF for each "page", it was merged into a single PDF document. It is definitely worth a look!

I timed the Delaunay triangulation of 1,000,000 vertices uniformly randomly distributed in a square. The output contained 1,999,955 triangles. (I used the -I switch to suppress the rewriting of input vertices to another file, since the vertices written would be identical to the ones read. Hence, only the triangles were written to disk.)

Delaunay triangulation time: 20.761 sec
File output time: 28.794 sec
Total time (above plus file input): 56.115 sec

This has been translated to a python library according to http://dzhelil.info/triangle/index.html# which includes documentation, download https://pypi.python.org/pypi/triangle/2013.04.05 - note, these links may become dead as the version changes. I found them with google in under 10 minutes.
