[Tex/LaTex] TexStudio indents the line instead of inserting a tab when I press Tab

Even though I have no characters selected, TeXstudio 2.8.4 appears to indent the whole line instead of inserting \t at the position my cursor is. This makes it a pain to, for instance, use tabs to align a table's columns.

How can I make the Tab key behave exactly as in typical text editor? (insert \t at the position of the text cursor, not at the beginning of the current line)

This appears to be related to a bug in version 2.8.4.

tab is assigned to indentSelection, unfortunately the operation can't be left without a shortcut due to a bug (fixed in repository)

From the relevant bug report. Jan Sundermeyer says the bug will be fixed in the next version.

You were probably using uppercase letters in the extension (e.g. foo.PNG). These were not recognized as images in TXS (will be fixed in the next version).

As a workaround you may change the extensions to lowercase. These extensions currently work: *.eps *.jpg *.png *.pdf

There is currently no builtin functionality for this. As a workaround you can create a script (Menu Macros -> Edit Macros...)

Then go to Options -> Shortcuts and bind the Return key to that Skript (You need to actually type return in the dropdown box because it's not in the dropdown list).

Note: Most of the time, placeholders are used for parameters in brackets. There you can simply continue typing the corresponding closing bracket and the placeholder will vanish. But I think the return is a reasonable addition to the concept and we will natively support it in the next release of TXS.
