I am using Basictex on my mac, and using TEXMAKER as editor. I installed multirow package by
tlmgr install multirow
command. And output is
tlmgr: package repository http://ctan.space-pro.be/tex-archive/systems/texlive/tlnet
tlmgr install: package already present: multirow
Its showing this error ! LaTeX Error: File `multirow.sty' not found
I really do not know what is happening. I need to fix it badly. Any kind of help is appreciateable.
Since you say you want any kind of TeX, I would personally recommend using Kile, as it comes installed with all the packages and is quite easy to use. Furthermore it comes with a lot of tools like wizards for tables or tools to easily create equations and add symbols for beginners. It also has a function to preview your equations.
You can find it in the Software Center.
Alternatively you can of course also use your terminal:
sudo apt-get install kile
That's all you have to do. Once you installed the editor, you should be able to just use it without anything additional.
Try putting the hand.sty file to the same location where your own .tex file is located. Additionally, there are some fixed folders where LaTeX looks for .sty files. I'm not using OS X myself, but it should be in:
/Users/<user name>/Library/texmf/tex/latex/local/
