[Tex/LaTex] Including Xfig figures with LaTeX formulas into Lyx documents

I want to include in a Lyx document an Xfig figure with some LaTeX formulas. Following this guide I can do this in ordinary .tex documents: I export my Xfig figure as a "Combined PDF/LaTeX (both parts)" file and I simply include it in the .tex document with the \input{file_name.pdf_t} command. So far so good! Anyway, when I try to do this same thing in my Lyx document (both writing explicitly the \input{ } command and through the Insert->File->Child_Document menu) I get the following error:

misspelled it (e.g., \hobx'), typeI' and the correct spelling
(e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about
whatever was undefined.

So, does someone now how to fix this? How can I include my figures with latex equations into Lyx?

A better idea is to use LyX's native integration with Xfig. This is better because if you modify your Xfig you do not have to remember to export again. I've seen many problems (e.g. "I forgot to reexport") occur from such copy/paste issues. This has the further advantage that LyX will show your figure.

Go to Insert > File > External Material:

See the help documents for more information. Even if LyX didn't have built-in support for Xfig, I would have recommended that you add it manually (you can define your own external templates).

textpos's \textblock is meant to place content in a fixed location on the current page. As such, you shouldn't store content that can float inside of it, even if the float package offers a non-floating, stay right [H]ere float specifier. Instead, you can fool TeX to think it's working with a float by using

\captionof{algorithm}{<your caption here>}

which is provided by caption. Alternatively, the minute capt-of package provides similar functionality. So, your document structure should rather resemble:

Problem solved! Thanks to all those who had a look at my question, especially scottkosty who suggested a solution. I solved the problem by including the chapter files directly in the LyX master document using the LyX Insert->File->Child Document menu facilty. I can now select the chapter file(s) to be compiled using the LyX Master Document Output window. The LyX includeonly facility does exactly what I want.

There is one small snag left: The Master Document Output window displays only the first nine (9) characters of the name of the path to a selected file, even when the window is maximized. This poses a challenge if the (sub)directories which contain the included files share a part of the path name: Several files, the paths to which share a part of the path name, can only be distinguished by some sort of counting. I pray and hope that the LyX team considers removing this small snag. Otherwise, LyX is a great document processor.
