The footers are set using fancyhdr
(loaded on lineĀ 201 in pnas-new.cls
). It creates a firststyle
page style which sets the headers/footers of the first page:
\makeatletter
\fancypagestyle{firststyle}{
\fancyfoot[R]{\footerfont PNAS\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}\textbf{\today}\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}vol. XXX\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}no. XX\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}\textbf{\thepage\textendash\pageref{LastPage}}}
\fancyfoot[L]{\footerfont\@ifundefined{@doi}{}{\@doi}}
}
\makeatother
Then it further defines the default header/footer layout (which will be used for pages 2 and onward):
% Headers
\fancyhead[LE,RO]{}
\fancyhead[LO,RE]{}
% Footers
\lfoot{}%
\cfoot{}%
\rfoot{}%
\makeatletter
\fancyfoot[LE]{\footerfont\textbf{\thepage}\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}\@ifundefined{@doi}{}{\@doi}}
\fancyfoot[RO]{\footerfont PNAS\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}\textbf{\today}\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}vol. XXX\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}no. XX\hspace{7pt}|\hspace{7pt}\textbf{\thepage}}
\fancyfoot[RE,LO]{\footerfont\@ifundefined{@leadauthor}{}{\@leadauthor}\ifnum \value{authors} > 1\hspace{5pt}\textit{et al.}\fi}
If you want to change the footer on the R
ight side of O
dd pages (which you mention in your question), remove \thispagestyle{firststyle}
(lineĀ 51 in PNAS-template-main.tex
) and add
\fancyfoot[RO]{}% Clear footer on Right Odd page
Alternatively, redefine the entire firststyle
page in your preamble using the layout you want:
\fancypagestyle{firststyle}{
\fancyfoot[R]{<your right footer>}
\fancyfoot[L]{<your left footer>}
}
EDIT: more specific footer settings, see below.
The template use the memoir
document class, which has a lot of customizability. You can make these changes in preamble/general.tex
:
line 166, change
\setlength\beforechapskip{0mm}
to
\setlength\beforechapskip{-3cm}
or whatever fits your design.
Footers: for the first page of a chapter pagestyle plain
is used, for the others pagestyle myruled
. You have to change the footers for both.
Line 195-196:
\makeevenfoot{myruled}{}{}{}
\makeoddfoot{myruled}{}{}{}
change to
\makeevenfoot{myruled}{MY FOOTER}{}{}
\makeoddfoot{myruled}{MY FOOTER}{}{}
Line 212-213:
\makeevenfoot{plain}{}{}{} % No page number on plain even pages (chapter begin)
\makeoddfoot{plain}{}{}{} % No page number on plain odd pages (chapter begin)
change to
\makeevenfoot{plain}{MY FOOTER}{}{} % No page number on plain even pages (chapter begin)
\makeoddfoot{plain}{MY FOOTER}{}{} % No page number on plain odd pages (chapter begin)
Change the comments to whatever is appropriate.
More specific footer settings, as indicated in the comment.
\makeevenhead{myruled}{}{}{\hffont\leftmark} % No page number
\makeoddhead{myruled}{\hffont\rightmark}{}{} % No page number
\makeevenfoot{myruled}{\hffont Lorem ipsum dolor}{\hffont Again lorem ipsum}{\hffont Page \thepage~of \thelastpage}
\makeoddfoot{myruled}{\hffont Lorem ipsum dolor}{\hffont Again lorem ipsum}{\hffont Page \thepage~of \thelastpage}
\renewcommand{\footruleheight}{\normalrulethickness}
...
\makeevenfoot{plain}{\hffont Lorem ipsum dolor}{\hffont Again lorem ipsum}{\hffont Page \thepage~of \thelastpage}
\makeoddfoot{plain}{\hffont Lorem ipsum dolor}{\hffont Again lorem ipsum}{\hffont Page \thepage~of \thelastpage}

It's very easy, you open the document ("Open as template"), and click on "Project". Then you can either "Download as zip" or just open the file "wlscirep.cls" directly online to view in the Overleaf editor.
I would use the template from Overleaf (either downloaded or online), that way you should always get the current requirements.
