lyxtables
I'm making an ordinary table in LyX and the table is going off-page. Seems that LyX isn't wrapping text inside the cells, and having done a search here on SE I still cannot find a solution which would simply
I've tried some of the advice offered in other answers to this question, but it seems to scale the entire table which is definitely not what I want. I just want text wrapping inside the cells. Thanks.
With tabularx package, the X column will fill the remaining table width. Note that a table width must be specified (here, given as `\textwidth}.

You have a tabular environment with only 3 columns
\begin{tabular}{{...}p{...}p{...}p{...}}
So you can't put in the second row three cells taking 5 columns:
Sample & --> 1\multicolumn{2}{...}{...} & --> 1 + 2 = 3\multicolumn{2}{...}{...}\tabularnewline --> 3+2 =5 Nor five cells in the following rows:

BTW, please avoid the vertical lines as well as the double lines. I suggest the use of tho horizontal rules of the booktabs package instead of \hline and some other changes. Please check the difference in this minimal working example:

I found a non-code solution based on trial and error. First, place the cursor on the desired column, go to Table Settings > Column settings, then set the value of Width in respect of Page Width.
