[Tex/LaTex] Converting word file containing equations to LaTeX file using pandoc

I have a word file which contains many mathtype equations as objects. I am trying to convert the file to LaTeX using pandoc with following command, but I am not receiving the equations in tex file

pandoc -s -f docx Document1.docx -o Document2.tex

Is it possible to convert a docx file to tex file containing equation objects. If yes, kindly let me know how. And if not, is there any easy alternate?

You have told your editor that the file is stored as latin1 encoding

% !TeX encoding   = ISO-8859-1

But pandoc thinks it is reading a UTF-8 encoded file so can not decode it. These encodings are the same for ascii letters but differ for anything else.

Pandoc may have an option to tell it the file encoding or if not, you should get your editor to save the file as utf-8.

Update for those who are seeking solutions: Now I am using a commercial software converting word to latex, and importing latex code into LyX by choosing "file"-> "import"->"latex plain" command in LyX. Although there are some new issues (see my other questions) compared to manually doing for each equation, overall, I think this is still more efficient.
