I am using Texmaker 4.4.1 for LaTex. Text editor performs a spell check automatically and underlines the wrong spelled words. How can I add new words to the dictionary with which it makes a comparison

In TeXMaker, choose Options -> Configure TeXMaker -> Editor.

The following windows will appear

In the textbox named "Spelling dictionary" you can find the name of the file containing the dictionary you are using.

Open this file in TeXMaker (or in any text editor) and add the words you like. Note that you must respect the alphanumeric ordering.

TeXworks uses a spell checker called Hunspell, an engine which is also used e.g. by OpenOffice:

Each dictionary consists of two files with the extensions .dic and .aff. Where these are located depends on your TeXworks installation, on my system (TeX Live 2010, Windows), they are in the directory

Adding words to the dictionary is quite simple: As the .dic file is a plain word list, you can just add new lines with your own words. If you want the system to recognize different word forms, too, you have to deal with the .aff file - see this explanation for more details. However, simply changing the word list should be enough in most cases.

Options > Configure TeXMaker > Editor

You can see the directory of the dictionary in the option Spelling dictionary. In Ubuntu, once you are in the directory, type

sudo gedit en_GB.dic

and put the word you want to add in there.

In Windows, just go to the directory and double click on the file or open with Notepad. Then write the word you want to add.

You might also want to save the customized file in another folder and have your Spelling dictionary option point to the custom file.
