MATLAB: What is the difference between a weighted mean filter and an alternative mean filter in low pass filtering

For an assignment, I've been asked to implement both of these filters and apply them to an image with salt and pepper noise.

Based on the lecture notes, I'm having trouble understanding the difference between a weighted mean filter and an alternative

mean filter. I would appreciate If someone could clarify.

As per my undestanding, in weigthed mean the mask coefficients are not "1"

A Gaussian filter blurs the image, so it can be like a "background" image. If you subtract that from the original image or one that is not blurred as much, it gives edges. This is called a Difference of Gaussian filter, or DOG filter. I've attached a demo script, below the image.

MATLAB: Adaptive Weighted Median Filter

Lots of things could be called that - there are maybe a dozen, or more, variants. Here's an example of how I use an adaptive median filter to remove salt and pepper noise. Feel free to adapt it to your particular algorithm.
