MATLAB: Create patch with color of image

I have an image and I want to create a patch with color map same as of image i.e. patch should look like image itself. I tried to search and I think it has to do something with cdata but I don't understand how to apply that.

Any suggestions!!

As posted in your former thread: Anders Brun has created a FEX submission, which uses different methods to display an image in 3D: FEX: image3

Example with SURFACE:

MATLAB: RGB-images on a 3D cube

This is an application for texture mapping. You can create six surfaces -- one for each face of the cube -- and apply your RGB image(s) as the texture map for each. You just have to make sure you flip around the RGB image data so that you're looking at it from the "right side", when assembled into a cube.

Here's a full example:

If you're not sure how it all works, try adding one surface at a time -- it might be more clear that way.
